Sororité is here to help you care for your one-of-a-kind vintage garments at home in a sustainable way. Not only are our methods easy, but they can also make a big difference for your clothing and the environment.

WASH AS NEEDED

Only washing your garments as needed will help to conserve your favorite clothing and to save water and detergent. All sororité garments are high quality pieces that have stood the test of time, and only washing them as needed will preserve them in your care, too.

HAND WASH IN COLD WATER

Hand washing your clothing in cold water not only eliminates carbon emissions, but it also preserves the quality of your garments as heat can break down fiber and potentially fade and/or shrink your clothing.

AIR-DRY YOUR GARMENTS

Air-drying your clothing can reduce your household’s carbon footprint by over 2000 pounds a year. [1] You can air-dry your clothing outdoors on a clothesline, or indoors on a clothing rack.

THINKING OF DRY CLEANING?

Your professional dry cleaner may offer a sustainable alternative to the pollutive chemicals used in typical dry cleaning. Perchloroethylene (perc), the chemical most commonly used in dry cleaning, poses health hazards for those exposed to it which includes a higher risk for cancer and changes in brain chemistry [2]. Perc is also reported to widely contaminate groundwater. [3] Ask your dry cleaner if your garment can undergo a water-based cleaning or if D-5, a biodegradable solvent, is offered in place of perc.

JEWELRY CARE:

Please store your jewelry in a safe, dry place, like your own personal jewelry box or the custom sororité packaging that all sororité jewelry arrives in.

Avoid allowing your jewelry to come into contact with oils or perfumes that might tarnish its natural shine. Lotion and contact with water whilst showering or swimming can interact with the plated metal of your necklace.

Clean your jewelry with a soft cloth or cotton ball after each use. This will help your pieces retain their color and shine.

Please note that sororité is not responsible for improper jewelry care.
